佛教之反对印度旧教言灵魂者何也？旧教言轮回言解脱，佛教亦言轮回言解脱，独轮回解脱之主体，旧教惟属诸么匿，佛则么匿与拓都并言之，而所重全在其拓都，此其最异之点也。故此主体者，佛教不名之曰灵魂，而名之曰羯磨，旧教言灵魂。虽各各不同，然皆言有一“神我”，我为所轮回体，神我为能轮回体。佛教以为若此沾滞于小我，是求解脱而反系缚也，故排之而立羯磨义。
