邓肯，美国女舞蹈家、编导、教师，现代舞的先驱，被誉为"现代舞之母"。1877年5月26日，生于美国旧金山。邓肯从古代雕塑、绘画中找到了她认为理想的舞蹈表现方式。她从古典音乐中汲取灵感，追求"可以通过人体动作神圣地表现人类精神"的舞蹈。波德莱尔曾说："舞蹈能启示一切蕴藏在音乐中的东西，邓肯把肉体动作发展为灵魂的自然言语。"
